These are devises or systems that are actually inserted into the cervix/uterus and are left there for 5 years. This requires some work… you need to have a pelvic exam to make sure you have no infections, and then get a prescription. Then when you are having you period, near the end of your flow you need to have it inserted by a nurse practitioner or a doctor.

Super important detail: It is possible for the IUD/IUS to come out. This does not protect against sexy germs (STIs).
