You can make a choice that includes keeping the pregnancy, but giving up the baby once born. In Manitoba, you would sign a form 48 hours after giving birth called a “Voluntary Surrendership Agreement”. Both biological parents have the right to change their mind about adoption for the next 21 days. Once the 21 days are over, you no longer have any legal rights over the baby. You would come to an agreement with the adoptive parents if you want to have contact information available, or not. Adoption can be hard on the people giving up the baby, but with support it can be the right choice.
