Abortion

Some females get pregnant at times in their life when it’s not the best time to raise a baby. In Canada, females have the right to discontinue their pregnancy. Some people are in support of this choice, others are not. The only thing that matters is how you feel about it, and what you want to do. Abortion is legal, safe, the cost is covered if you have a provincial health care card, and it does not affect your ability to have a baby in the future. You do not need permission from your parents or guardian. Abortion is available before 16 weeks of pregnancy. (A few doctors will perform abortions between 16-18 weeks).

In the north, you can talk to your school nurse, public health nurse, or doctor about this option. You will be given correct information, and no one will judge you. Just so you know abortions are not performed in the north. Your nurse or doctor will talk to you about travel to Winnipeg and everything else you need to know.
