Eating Disorders

Both guys and gals can suffer from eating disorders. The most common eating disorders are:

  • Anorexia Nervosa – is a disorder with the desire to be thin and the fear of gaining weight.  The individual doesn’t eat enough food to fuel their body, which leads to the individual looking severely underweight.
  • Bulimia Nervosa – is a disorder with the desire to be thin where one binges on food and then gets rid of it by either throwing up, misusing laxatives, or over exercising.
  • Binge Eating / Compulsive Overeating – is a disorder where people have the urge/addiction to overeat during a binge due to a lack of control.

All of these eating disorders require help. Talk to a healthcare professional like a nurse, doctor, or dietitian in your community.  Want to talk to a registered dietitian in Manitoba? It’s free!
